WASPA monthly report with results, statistics and rankings
Hi everyone,
here is the monthly report of the WASPA circuit (click here). We had a fantastic month with 22 events played all over the world. These were 18 "regional" tournaments, 3 events with the old rules and 1 with the advanced rules in Greece (with 22 players!)
Among the importants facts of the month, we can mention:
- the first tournament ever in Switzerland. It seemed to be very positive as two more tournaments are already in the agenda!
- good turnouts in events in England, Portugal, Italy and Hamilton (Canada)
- Geoffrey Marain did not play this month but remains number 1 in the ranking
- Australian players attended the Colorado Cup in Denver (USA)
- Paul O'Donovan from California attended the Penrith tournament (Australia)
- the first leg of the Scottish circuit had 12 players and counted also for the WASPA circuit
- 11 players competed in Valdivia (Chile)
- the tournament in Macerata played with the old rules had 32 entries (!)
- we have now 1138 players in the ranking!

Tournament in Lurago d'Erba
... and it was snowing, and there were family commitments... and there was the guy which car that smashed in the curve ... But three courageous survivors played alike! So, despite the hitches, the WASPA-ETF project goes on anyway... Not Only! This event is part of the new TSC Black Rose project called "Tournaments by Specialties". They consist of to play with a specific mono-materilal production of the past.
After the two small torunaments played during the inauguration of the project (look here: http://ilforumsubbuteo.forumfree.it/?t=68032058) this is the third tournament of this typology. This time the ultimate decision was to play with original Subbuteo moulded HW production.
Thank you to all the WASPA staff for this so kind hospitality in the circuit!
Ranking:
Claudio Dogali 4 points
Luca Rajna 1 point
Fabri Olla 1 point
Teams employed:
Fabri Olla had a "Club Bottini Genoa" on rare white thick bases. Claudio Dogali played with on Alessandria 60s, always on rare blue thick bases. Alessandria is the only woldwide (may be...) team to have a grey shirt. Luca Rajna played with two different teams: the first match he had an Israel 1970 and for the second one he had the "Veneto Serenissimo Governo"; bases were in both cases of normal thickness.

First title for Chris Kaberry
Mike Parnaby sat this one out and opted to help mentor our new face, Rob Heseltine. Rob just turned up at the club and earns his first WASPA ranking points at his first attempt. He shows good signs already. The stage was set for anyone to win the night but it was Chris Kaberry who rose to the challenge and won his three games. Jeff Parsons kept up the chase and played Mike in a demostration match after the main event using the old flats teams. Ben finsihed mid table, John came 4th. Andy Mill scored his first win of the season to earn a few exytra points!

Varant Kurkeyerian wins Red Hill Rumble
Varant Kurkeyerian’s San Luis United took home the Red Hill Rumble with a well played 2-0 win over Conan Mullen’s Santa Rosa Hotspur. The tournament, the first WASPA/ASA event hosted by the newly formed Northern California Subbuteo Club, couldn’t have had better weather. A rainy San Francisco made an excellent backdrop to the heated action on the Astropitches. The group round was dominated by three strong teams, each finishing with nine points on four games and goals galore.
In the Championship Round, Peter Vahle’s Screw-ups Balompie fell behind 2-0 early to Spurs before pulling back one goal. In the final, United turned the tables on on Conan’s boys to bring home the bragging rights for “The Club Down South”.
In the Mary Jane, Vincent Vidal’s Olympique Lyon played Joe Schmidt’s South Berkeley SC to an exciting scoreless draw. The game eventually went to penalties, and was won by South Berkeley thanks to a cheeky roller that just beat the Frenchman’s keeper.
Big thanks to Varant for traveling all the way from the Central Coast, and to Peter for hosting us at his beautiful home. Until next time!

First time in Monte Comprati: Enrico Guidi wins again
On February 11th, the Table Soccer Club Black Rose ’98 Roma (www.blackrose98roma.com and www.blackrose98roma.blogspot.it) organized the “Round 9” of the “W.A.S.P.A. Black League” at the “Black Rose Training Center” located in Monte Compatri (Rome), Via Campo Gillaro, 12.
It was the first time in Monte Compatri and it was also a very nice evening tournament with 13 players attended for the secondo 2014 tournament and ready to defy the invincible Enrico Guidi. They were representative of two Italian subbuteo associations (T.S.C. Black Rose ’98 Roma and A.C.S. Perugia 1973). At the same time our player Paolo Bartolomeo dedicated his time to our new player generation (all under 17 years old).
The T.S.C. Black Rose ’98 Roma decided to organize a tournament under the Swiss system so all players could play five games. At the end of the fifth round Enrico Guidi have collected 15 points, followed by Severino Gara at 10 (value opponents: 50) and Marco Lauretti at 10 (value opponents: 40). At the fourth place ended Andrea Capelli (9 points and value opponents 41) followed by Andrea Strazza (9 points and value opponents 39) and Luigi Barone (9 points and value opponents 30).
Enrico Guidi confirm himself a subbuteo machine: five consecutive winning matchs (as usual) and we are still trying to find the player that can stop fantastic player…
In the months to come T.S.C. Black Rose ’98 Roma will organize other W.A.S.P.A. tournaments looking at the different needs (materials and rules) of F.I.S.T.F. and Subbuteo players.
See you soon!

The final standings of the tournament:

First Subbuteo tournament in Madrid under WASPA banner
Nine players, five of them U12, played in an only Open category. All players were newcomers playing their first or second championship. Three of the U12 reached semifinals! Juan Carlos Pendolero Gutiérrez was the winner and Carlos Barios (U12) was the runner-up.
The matches were played under FISTF rules, but only with Subbuteo stuff to make it easier to all the new players with no idea about “pro” items. Also, and due to time restrictions, matches were 20 minutes long.
Seems that a new amateur club will be founded in Madrid and a “Liga” and a “World Cup” will be played in the next months. I will confirm you next dates and events. Next tournament will probably be in March.
